Diversity in Our Communities

Empowering the Future

At VSP, we aspire to a future where everyone can bring their best vision to life and are committed to doing our part to make this a reality.

From the start of our company, Dr. Marvin R. Poston and our other founders set high expectations for us. What better way to empower human potential than by serving and educating others and providing opportunities, especially to groups who traditionally have unmet healthcare needs or limited representation in the eyecare industry.

“As we look to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future, we partner with aligned organizations to amplify our investment in DE&I to advance the optometric profession and the communities we serve.”

Educating the Providers of Today and Tomorrow

Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) extends to providers. To effectively deliver personalized care that meets the unique needs of the communities they serve, they must first understand what respectful and inclusive service looks like. That’s why we’ve prioritized making cultural competency training available for our VSP Network providers.

But, at VSP, we’re in this for the long-term. While we’re partnering with current practitioners to build their foundational knowledge, we’re also investing in a more diverse future for eyecare. Innovative programs, like our partnership with Black EyeCare Perspective and our Visioning the Future Mentorship Program for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in collaboration with the National Optometric Association (NOA) and the Dr. Marvin R. Poston Foundation, fuel diversity in the profession. Through our partnerships with educational institutions, like The Ohio State University, the State University of New York, and the University of California, Berkeley, we are strengthening the future of vision care by ensuring a pipeline of diverse candidates enter the field to better reflect the patient population for generations to come.

Enhancing our Impact

Our partnerships extend the impact of our DE&I efforts. By supporting groups working to enhance education for, service to, and representation of persons who are traditionally underrepresented, the full spectrum of customers, clients, neighbors, and employees we serve are empowered to see every possibility.
