VSP Vision Expands Investments in Private Practice Doctors, Optometry Students, and Eye Care Access as it Marks 70 Years

|

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – For 70 years, VSP Vision™, the first national not-for-profit vision benefits company, has worked to empower human potential through sight. This year, the health-focused organization celebrates its 70th anniversary by further investing in the long-term success of network providers, optometry students, and in expanding access to eye care for communities in need.

“For 70 years, VSP Vision has been proud to serve stakeholders, not shareholders,” said VSP Vision President and CEO Michael Guyette. “Reaching this milestone provides us with a chance to celebrate and reinforce our commitment to the communities we serve and the investments we continue to make in them.”

To honor 70 years of helping people see, VSP Vision is:

Fueling private practice success through the VSP Vision Exam Rebate.
Over 2,100 practices have benefited from more than $33 million for the care they deliver to patients through the VSP Vision Exam Rebate, which has been extended through 2025. The high-impact initiative from Professional Eye Care Associates of America (PECAA) and VSP Vision offers doctors the opportunity to receive up to $10 per VSP commercial eye exam, and as much as $60,000 in total incremental revenue this year.

Delivering live regional education events that help VSP network providers simplify doing business with VSP and maximize revenue opportunities.
In addition to the ways VSP has long-been investing back in network providers – through programs like the VSP Vision Exam Rebate, VSP Premier Edge™ and more – in 2025, the company will bring live regional education and training events to 24 markets across the country. The ‘VSP101 Workshops’ are designed to support providers by offering valuable insights and practical training to enhance practice efficiency and profitability. More information on education and training workshops, as well as other regional events, coming soon. Visit https://www.vspproviderhub.com/ for more.

Supporting optometry’s next generation by awarding 70 scholarships to students.
VSP Vision will offer 70 scholarship opportunities to students of optometry including The Practice Excellence Scholarship, The VSP Premier Edge™ Student Business Challenge, The Dr. Marvin R. Poston Leadership Awards, The Student Innovator Award, The Vision of Hope Scholarship, The Dr. Frank D. Fontana Memorial Scholarship, The Dr. Craig Hisaka Memorial Scholarship, and more. To date, VSP Vision has invested more than $4 million dollars in scholarships to support aspiring eye doctors.

Extending the VSP™ Student Loan Repayment Program.
To help alleviate the significant financial pressures that many new doctors face, VSP Vision is investing an additional $4 million to extend the popular VSP™ Student Loan Repayment Program. The program also aims to address critical access gaps by encouraging doctors to serve in healthcare deserts—areas where VSP Vision Care members have limited access to care. By incentivizing optometrists to practice in these underserved communities, VSP is helping to ensure more equitable access where vision care is needed most.

Improving equitable access to eye care for communities in need through a VSP Vision™ Eyes of Hope® Mobile Clinic 70-event Tour.
In honor of 70 years celebrating vision, the VSP Eyes of Hope mobile clinics will travel across the United States hosting 70 events in various communities. As always, the mobile clinics, alongside volunteer VSP network doctors, will bring essential no-cost eye care services directly to individuals in need, helping to ensure everyone has access to quality care. This year, VSP Eyes of Hope will also be adding a brand-new mobile clinic to its fleet, helping make the 70-event tour possible. To date, more than 4 million people in need have received access to no-cost eye care and eyewear through one of the Eyes of Hope programs.
